Parthasarathy Rajagopalan, 77, is a financial advisor and former railway circuit engineer. The interview includes discussion of the fifteen people who founded of the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago in 1977, in which he played an instrumental role, particularly as a fundraiser. He was the temple’s first joint-treasurer and participated in selecting the site in Lemont, IL. He discusses how as Hindus in Chicago, they felt that they were not truly worshipping until they could have a temple. Parthasarathy also discusses his early career in the Indian railways, how his training was greatly desired by immigration authorities, and he therefore had no trouble obtaining permanent residency in 1974.
