Tilat Rais is a devoted caretaker who strongly identifies with the duty to help others that her faith, Islam, teaches. The interview includes discussion of her faith and desire to be successful through serving others. She discusses obtaining her master’s degree in fine arts in Nepal and teaching at the high school level. She married her husband later in life and joined him in the US to care for his children. Large sections of the interview are in Urdu with another person in the room, who assists in translating for the interviewer. Other topics discussed include: feeling independent in the US, studying English, and comparisons of Muslims in the US and India.
